Today

Spent some time staring at my navel today. Man, those things look weird, weirder than ears.

Now that's how you do a navel-gazing blog entry.

King Kong

Peter Jackson's King Kong is perhaps the best-made movie I've seen this year. I literally spent the first half-hour of the film marvelling at how well-lit and shot it was. The CG imagery was likewise excellent — 1930's New York looked just like I remember it.

Notes from the Road
  • Plaque is a biofilm, and we have always been at war with biofilm.
  • Henderson, NC is nowhere near Henderson County, NC.

Just got back from a few days in Asheville with the family, going to be in Raleigh for a few days before I head back north. I'm planning on spending the time to catch up on some portion of a mountain technical reading, perhaps working on some long-term and low-priority stuff, and catching up with some old friends.

oddjob and Fedora Extras

Spent a large chunk of the day getting the oddjob .spec file in shape for Fedora Extras, and then submitting the shiny new 0.21 release for inclusion.

oddjob and D-BUS restarts

One of the more annoying things about D-BUS (Hi John!) is that if the bus you happen to be connected to exits (say, if it's being restarted), your application exits. And this is done from inside of a library.

So I spent the last day and a bit adding support for reconnecting to oddjob, and tidying it up for a 0.18 release.

Branding 2.0

For some reason I'm feeling really skeptical right now, mainly about a troubling tendency I'm seeing: taking a well-understood term and adding 2.0 to the end of it.

Oh well, maybe I'm just punchy from being in a different time zone. Maybe it's just Jet Lag 2.0, and some Sleep 2.0 will take care of it (trust me, 2.0 is so much more awesome than that 1.0 crap you're used to — you'll wonder how you ever lived without it).
